SNOW affected much of the region on Wednesday morning, with schools closing and roads barely passable.

Newton Stewart suffered a heavy dose which quickly turned to sleet, causing slushy roads and a few wet feet on pavements.

Kirkcowan Primary School was closed due to a heating failure and many homes in Newton Stewart suffered a loss of power, though some of these are thought to have been due to a tree coming down the day before.

The forecast was for a warmer but wet few days ahead.
