Two local groups have been awarded a cash injection by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The ‘Isle of Whithorn – Through the Years’ project has been awarded £36,700. This project will see a group of young people research local records and deliver oral history interviews with local residents. This information will then be used to create a memory board which will be exhibited within village hall.
And the Stewartry Area Wind Band ‘Songs that won the War Whistle Stop Tour Scotland’ and Ypres Project was awarded £10,000.
This project sees a group of young people from the band and the Galloway Pipers research and learns songs from WWI, producing song books from their research. This music will then be played at local community events and the band will travel to Ypes where they will lay wreaths and play the Last Post at the Menin Gate.
They will also share their experiences with local schools and care homes.
