Grants awarded

THE following grants were allocated from the Wigtown Area Committee discretionary budget for 20133 / 2014 at Wednesday’s business meeting in Stranraer.

The River Cree Hatchery and Habitat Trust - £7,425 towards the total cost of funding of £24,752 for a co-ordinator to oversee the development of the hatchery as well as supervising and delivering a training scheme for volunteers.

Wigtown Festival Company - up to £30,000 towards the total cost of £261,000 to run the book festival in 2013.

FC Twente Tucker Clan Supporters Club - £13,912 towards a total cost of £18,550 for exchange events with football club Enschelde in the Netherlands including plans to bring well-known football stars Michael Mols, Artur Numan and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink to Stranraer to take part in a football show this summer.

The Whithorn Trust - £32,125 towards a total cost of £107,000 toward the core running cost of the Trust.

The Furniture Project - £14,813 towards total cost of £98,754 towards the salaries of three employees. The elected members requested more information on the project at a future meeting.

Machars Action - £7,200 towards a total cost of £41,310 towards the core running of Machars Action.

Port William Community Development Trust - £4,000 towards the total cost of £10,740 to carry out repairs on the village’s multi-games area.

Whithorn Bravehearts -£1,000 towards total costs of £2,025 to help with hall hire fees.

Newton Stewart Walking Festival - £2,000 towards total costs of £9,250 to run the annual walking festival.

Newton Stewart Museum - £6,000 towards total cost of £10,175 towards running costs of museum.

Requests for funding were turned down from the Stranraer to Ayr Rail Line Association, Stranraer and District Community Action Trust, Newton Stewart Golf Club and Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.
