Good show for Grace’s girls

Typhoon Girls

AN RAF corporal from the Isle of Whithorn has been instrumental in raising thousands for the UK’s oldest Armed Forces charity - the SSAFA Forces Help.

Thirty-six-year-old Grace Flannigan, who is based at RAF Leuchars, organised a fundraising event in July in Dundee that saw an 18-strong female team from the base cycle and row 583 miles - the distance from Leuchars to Dunkirk in France.

During the challenge the Typhoon Girls, as they dubbed themselves, took it on turns on an exercise bike until they reached the equivalent of 583 miles.

That distance would be Leuchars to Dover and then Calais to Dunkirk.

They also used a rowing machine to cover the 27.2 miles of the English Channel.

Grace, who is an administrator with 6 Squadron, came up with the idea and was delighted to raise £3000 in the process.

Her proud mum Nancy back home in the Isle said she was thrilled for Grace who joined the RAF from school.
