Gillian on a mission

FORMER Creetonian Gillian McKnight is getting on her bike and taking positive action in the fight against breast, ovarian and cervical cancers by cycling through Kenya.

Forty-one-year old Gillian, who now lives in Lanark and is well know in equestrian circles, is part of an amazing group of women tackling the unique, new Women V Cancer challenge.

Other cyclists include television presenters Dawn Porter and Aggie MacKenzie.

They will both be challenging themselves as part of a women-only team of cyclists riding through Kenya to support the work of three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. A donation will also be made to support cancer care in Kenya.

Women of all ages and all cycling abilities from across the UK are invited to join the adventure from 29 October – 7 November 2011.

The group will cycle around 400km over five days – both on and off road- experiencing Africa away from the usual tourist trails through savannah plains and villages.

As well as training hard Gillian needs to raise a minimum of 2,800 and is asking local people and companies to help her reach that target.

To pledge your support post your donation, made payable to Women V Cancer, to Scottish Equi Complex, Lanarkmoor Country Park, Lanark, ML11 9TA or visit her blog at gillian-onamission.blogspot.com.
