Fraudster fined £1600

A man was fined £1600 at
Stranraer Sheriff Court this week
after he admitted lying to the
Department of Work and Pensions about his circumstances.

Duncan Murray, 48, of 34 Woodland Road, Stranraer, failed to notify the DWP that he was employed and was not entitled to income support. The
offences took place between June 15, 2007, and October 5, 2009, at addresses in Hurlford, Ayrshire and Stranraer.

Sheriff Kenneth Robb told Murray that the fine had to reflect the substantial amount he obtained by fraud.
