Former Wigtown Show chairman set snares
THE former chairman of Wigtown Agricultural Society will be sentenced in Stranraer Sheriff Court on November 20 after admitting causing an animal unnecessary suffering.
Forty-eight-year-old Iain McFadzean, of Glenvernoch, Bargrennan, near Newton Stewart, admitted catching a badger on March 11 by setting an illegal snare at a fence line on the farm while knowing that the animal caught would be likely to suffer injuries which would not normally have occurred.
He also pleaded guilty to setting snares along a fence line between March 11 and 12 that would cause an animal caught in the device unnecessary suffering.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb asked that McFadzean, who accompanied the Princess Royal around Wigtown Show in 2011, make a personal appearance in the court to hear his sentence.
