Fireworks are set to sparkle
The annual Rotary Club fireworks display in Newton Stewart will take place at Blairmount Park on Saturday, November 10, at 5.30pm. As always, all are welcome to enjoy this annual event, with the hopes that the weather will be kinder than it has been over the past few years. Costs are £4 per adult, and accompanied children come in for free. The gates will open from 5pm and the bonfire will be lit at 5.30pm, with fireworks at 6pm.
Meanwhile, Dumfries and Galloway fire service, police and council have joined forces to prepare a bonfire strategy aimed at reducing the number of bonfires and the illegal sale of fireworks.
Fire service watch manager Jason Gardiner said: “It is important that bonfire night is safe and enjoyable. Do follow the fireworks code and follow all manufacturers’ instructions. Any bonfires on sites which are not designated will be removed. Regular checks on all areas are carried out by the Fire and Rescue Service, and other partnership agencies.”
And Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Trading Standards Service is warning consumers to be aware of a potential safety issue with an Aquilla Battery firework which they may have purchased from Lidl stores in the area or outwith Dumfries and Galloway.
The Weco Aquilla Battery firework (Lidl item number 77642) may have a manufacturing fault that causes it to explode at ground level rather than in the air as intended. Anyone who has purchased one of these fireworks must not use it and should return it immediately to Lidl for a refund.
Should any consumers require further advice they can contact Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Trading Standards on 030 33 33 3000.
