A Glenluce man who tried to blame his brother after police caught him driving without a licence or insurance was fined £2000 and disqualified from driving for 15 months on Tuesday at Stranraer Sheriff Court.
Ian Bell, 39, of Sun Street, was stopped by police in the early hours of the morning on the A75 near Dergoals Farm on September 13 last year after going to collect his younger brother after he phoned the accused for a lift home.
When the police appeared Bell had “panicked” and claimed his brother was driving the car as he knew he had neither licence nor insurance. He later apologised to police when they were interviewing him.
Sentencing, Sheriff Kenneth Robb noted that this was the fourth time Bell had been caught driving without licence or insurance.
“This time he had exacerbated matters by trying to land his brother in trouble by giving false details to the police.”
