Fine for man who had knife in hospital
A Stranraer man with mental health problems who took a knife into the Galloway Community Hospital in May last year was fined £400 by Sheriff Kenneth Robb at the court in Stranraer this week.
Ian Young, of 42 Kerrsland Road, was arrested after taking the knife concealed in a bag into the hospital.
Procurator fiscal Lindsay Hunter told the court the accused had gone into the hospital and asked to see a doctor. He was asked to sit in the waiting area but staff became suspicious about what he had in his bag.
When asked about the contents he was unco-operative and his strange behaviour meant staff called in the police. Officers seized the bag and found it contained a black-handled knife.
Defending, agent Ian Milligan said the accused had little recollection of the events of the day as he had been drinking too much due to “personal difficulties”.
