Whithorn’s most famous knitter Ethel Brolls has decided to rename her charity the ‘Ethel Brolls’ Knitting Appeal for Children of the World’.
This means that her former charity the ‘Ethel Brolls’ Romanian Orphans Knitting Appeal’ is no more. The charity that Ethel set up in 2001 has, over the past 12 years, sent an amazing 78,000 items to underprivileged children all over the world.
It is the global nature of 65-year-old Ethel’s charity now that has prompted the change of name.
Ether said: “We now send items not just to Romania but to places like Malawi, Kenya, Croatia and to British children’s hospitals as well as to Romania. We sent knitted items to wherever there are children in need no matter their colour, creed or nationality.
“We will continue to sent the items to the children via the Blythswood Care and Raven’s Trust charities.”
