Robin Young

The new editor of the Galloway Gazette and its sister paper, the Carrick Gazette, is 56-year-old Robin Young.

He takes over from Archie Plunkett, who is now working on a morning tabloid.

Robin, who joined the Gazette's Girvan office in July last year as news editor, had previously edited the Belfast-based Community Telegraph Series, the Northern Constitution and the Londonderry Sentinel, which belongs to the Johnston Press group in Northern Ireland.

Since starting his journalistic career in 1969, he has worked on provincial morning, evening, weekly and Sunday newspapers, press agencies for the national daily and broadcasting media and was, during the mid-1970s, editor of the English-language Athens Daily Post, in Greece.

Married with three sons, a stepson, stepdaughter and three grandchildren - with one more on the way - Robin is a member of Girvan Rotary Club and the National Union of Journalists.
