Drunk tried to punch doctor

A DRUNK who threw a punch at a doctor in the Galloway Community Hospital was jailed for four months by Sheriff Kenneth Robb at the court in Stranraer on Tuesday.

William Wallace, aged 54, of Whitson Avenue, Stranraer admitted assaulting a doctor, shouting and swearing at the community hospital on August 29.

Wallace’s defence agent Margo Nicol told the court that the accused’s behaviour on the day was totally unacceptable but was brought on by his continuing difficulties with alcohol. She said that Wallace threw the punch at the doctor while sitting in a chair as he was too drunk to stand.

Sentencing, Sheriff Robb commented that doctors needed the support of the public, not people like Wallace harassing them.
