Drought order halted

AN application for a drought order in Galloway has been removed after water levels at Wigtownshire's main reservior returned to normal.

Supplies in towns and villages served by the Penwhirn reservoir have now been fully restored.

A spokesman for the utility said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers in Wigtownshire for their support throughout this period and for helping us to conserve water".

Scottish Water's Customer Service Delivery Director, Peter Farrer, added: "I would like to thank our customers across Dumfries and Galloway for using water wisely. This area has had some of the driest weather experienced in generations, with rainfall levels for the first few months of the year being well below normal. Through the support of our customers and the sustained rain in the last few weeks our reservoir levels have risen across the area."
