Three keen cyclists from Newton Stewart are planning to start a marathon three-day cycle from the Mull of Galloway to John o’ Groats.

The team will travel a distance of 420 miles to raise money for Cancer Research UK starting next Friday, June 20.

Seventeen-year-old Ben White, 41-year-old Mark Hannay and 38-year-old Hubi Stachnio have all had family of friends affected by cancer and that inspired them to undertake the mammoth journey along with their support vehicle driver Johnny McQuaker from Wigtown.

The trio will cycle from the Mull to Dumbarton on day one, a journey of 130 miles; from Dumbarton to Inverness on day two, a journey of 150 miles and on the final day they will tackle the remaining 130 miles to the top corner of mainland Scotland at John o’Groats.

Mark said: “We have set ourselves a target of £1000 but we have just about reached that already. We have also been putting the miles in to prepare for this and will have cycled around 2000 miles since Janaury.”

If you want to donate you can go to their justgiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/mark-hannay1

Teenager Ben will have little time to recover before he sets off again, on his own this time, to attempt to cycle from London to Paris the following Saturday, June 28, just for the thrill of doing it this time.
