Cumloden resident leaves £1.7 million in her will

A former resident of Cumloden Manor Nursing Home in Minnigaff has left more than £1.7million behind in her will and it can be revealed 18 charities will benefit from her generosity.

Robina Hunter, from Newton Stewart, passed away last August at the age of 100.

Legal documents show that the wealthy lady did not own a property and lived at Cumloden Manor Nursing Home, and that she left behind £1,765,228.56.

The paperwork shows that she had a number of investment bonds and bank accounts.

Ms Hunter left half of her wealth to friends and family and the other half was divided between 18 charities.

When her death was reported at the time, it was requested that no flowers were brought to her funeral and that any donations were sent to the Dog Aid Society – a charity that helps re-homing of dogs.

Papers from Glasgow Sheriff Court show that £67,104.96 was to be left to the charity after Ms Hunter passed away.

Instructions were also left that the same amount be given to five other animal charities including the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad, and Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and Sea Cadet Corps were also among the charities to receive the generous sum.

A local church fund was left a smaller sum of £2000.
