Court told rape victim was tied to tree

A TEENAGE girl was left tied to a tree in woods after she was allegedly raped, a court heard.

The 17-year-old told a jury she was abandoned by Leon Pedley who, it is claimed, sexually assaulted her in March this year.

Pedley this week went on trial at the High Court in Glasgow accused of rape. The 20-year-old has lodged a special defence of consent.

The trial heard how Pedley met the girl in Stranraer on March 13. The alleged victim claimed Pedley grabbed her by the throat before also punching her in the stomach.

She recalled being “scared”. The accused was said to have tried to get her to carry out a sex act. She told the jury: “I started screaming really loudly. He put his hand on my mouth and told me not to do that.

“He then said that we were going to move somewhere else. I just got back up. I was in shock – I did not know what to do.”

The court heard they ended up in woods and the girl had “no idea” where she was. Pedley allegedly then took off the girl’s shoe and sock, using a lace to tie her hands behind her back. It was claimed he then put the sock in the teenager’s mouth before having sex with her.

She told prosecutor Andrew Stewart QC: “I kept trying to tell him to stop, but I could not really speak.”

The court heard the girl was freed and Pedley then said he was sorry, claiming he did not want to do it, but she had “made him”.

The sex attack was said to have continued before Pedley allegedly tied the girl to a nearby tree with laces.

Pedley claimed he was going to the toilet, but the trial was told he did not return.

The girl told the court: “I started screaming – five minutes later I knew he was not coming back. He had just left me there. I sat there and kept crying and hoping someone would help me.”

She recalled eventually managing to free herself and then tried to get out the woods. She reached a path where she met a friend, who took her in a car.

The trial, before Judge Lord Brailsford, continues.
