Councillor dies after taking ill at meeting

A COUNCILLOR from the east of the region has died after falling ill at a meeting.

Ted Brown, who represented the Annandale North ward of the council, was taken to Dumfries Infirmary during today’s Planning and Environment Committee meeting in Dumfries, a meeting attended by councillors from across the region.

A council statement read: “It is with deep regret that Dumfries and Galloway Council announces that one of its most respected members, Labour Councillor Ted Brown has died today, after being taken ill at a Council meeting this morning.

“ An ambulance was called and Councillor Brown was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Infirmary, where he regrettably died.”

As a mark of respect, all council business, meetings and civic engagements involving councillors for the remainder of the week have been cancelled.
