THE abandoned 4X4 spotted submerged in the Solway off the coast of Sandgreen last week is due to be recovered imminently.
As no owner has come forward, Dumfries and Galloway Council are to set about the process of pulling it from the seabed at the mouth of the River Fleet, where it was discovered at low tide last Tuesday. Recovery efforts by fire and rescue teams were abandoned as such operations are outwith their remit, a spokesman told The Gazette.
Dumfries and Galloway Council said that if the vehicle became an environmental hazard, they would look at having it removed.
Coastguard and police teams were also involved at the scene following its discovery, but no people or belongings were found.
A Crown Estates spokesman said this week the land on which the car sits does not belong to them, but was claimed in 1967 by Kirkdale & Cardoness Estate in 1967, and is therefore not their responsibility.
