Council launch community endeavour awards

Do you know anyone that deserves to be nominated? Would you like them to be recognised for everything that they do and to get a little bit of thanks back?

On Thursday, June 19, the Queen’s Baton Relay will visit Dumfries and Galloway. It will travel from East to West across our region, and pass through Newton Stewart and Stranraer during the late afternoon. Local Community Engagement Groups have been established to co-ordinate a range of community activities and events on this day to bring our communities together to celebrate sport, culture and unity at the XX Commonwealth Games.

In addition to these activities Dumfries & Galloway Council will be honouring the winners of the Mid Galloway / Wigtown West Community Endeavour Awards. These awards will recognise volunteers, community leaders, community groups, individuals and businesses that make a positive contribution to the local community, putting people first and inspiring others to get involved. The awards will be presented to the winners on June 19 at the Castle Square Community Celebration in Stranraer and at Penninghame Primary School ,Newton Stewart on the same afternoon.

We would encourage readers to nominate any individual or group that you feel deserves one of these awards.

Nominations must be returned by Friday, May 9, to Beverley Mercer, Acting Depute Facilities Manager Wigtown, Ryan Centre, Fairhurst Road, Stranraer, DG9 7AP or by e-mail to Beverley.Mercer@dumgal.gov.uk (phone no. 01776 703535) or for Mid Galloway Laura Kiltie, Community Learning and Development Worker, Douglas Ewart High School, Corsbie Road, Newton Stewart, DG8 6JQ or Laura.kiltie@dumgal.gov.uk or on 01671 404 756.
