SUMMITING The Merrick, the highest Corbett in southern Scotland at 843m, is a challenge enjoyed by many.
And following the success of a similar event last year, Galloway Mountain Rescue are offering intrepid charity fundraisers a further opportunity to climb to the ‘Rooftop of Galloway’ in the safe hands of the team members.
The charity event, on Sunday 14th April, 2013, is open to groups, clubs or individuals, to raise funds for their local or national charity, or they can choose to raise money for the team.
avid McNicol, Fundraising Officer said: “Folks who have joined us in the past remark upon the encouragement and reassurance we provide. Participants can choose who they wish to support; last year over £5000 was raised by 141 walkers. We hope that local fundraisers will come on board with the challenge once again, and use the uniqueness of the event to enjoy a safe, yet challenging climb via the so called ‘Tourist Path’ route. It’s an all round fun day, with great team spirit, and we hope to repeat the previous years’ musical entertainment at the summit cairn.”
To register for the challenge, you should contact Marie McCann on 01988 402900 or by email at challenge2013@gallowaymrt.org.uk. Full details can be found on the team’s website at www.gallowaymrt.org.uk, but be mindful that places are limited so it’s wise to book early.
