Chamber president to stand down
WIGTOWNSHIRE Chamber of Commerce president Peter Jeal has announced that he is to stand down after the next annual general meeting.
His retiral will see a new head in place after Mr Jeal’s five-year run, with his wife, the Camber’s secretary and treasurer Bobbie Jeal, also standing down.
Mr Jeal told The Gazette: “I wanted to retire from the Chamber last year but was persuaded to stay on for another year - a year which has seen unprecedented growth in our membership and the Chamber’s representation on a number of key bodies including the Scottish Government Task Force and a partnership working agreement with Dumfries and Galloway Council.
“After five years at the helm, however, I feel that not only is it time for someone else to take over as president, but for me to stop working seven days a week juggling a range of commitments including running my own business. I also want to spend some time campaigning for a ‘yes vote’ in the independence referendum in 2014.”
Nominations for posts in the Chamber can be made by 15 October by lodging them with the secretary or in writing to Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce, WRDC Business Centre, 6-8 Queen Street, Newton Stewart, DG8 6JL.
