Cash injection for affordable homes - but just two in Wigtown

A CASH injection of £1.78 million for affordable homes in the region will see just 16 built in the west.

Two houses have been earmarked for Wigtown and 14 for Glenluce, but Dumfries and Thornhill will see 25.

The council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan(SHIP) received the cash boost from the Scottish Government. He new funding is a welcome addition to the £7.304m which was allocated previously.

The Wigtown project will see the refurbishment and conversion of a derelict empty property into two dwellings which will be offered at mid market rent to be owned and managed by DGHP.

Councillor Jim McClung, Chair of the Council’s Housing Sub Committee said: “This extra funding is recognition of our commitment to affordable housing. A lot of time and effort has gone into making our programmes deliverable and robust. Other local authorities have been unable to deliver on their targets and we are exceeding ours.”
