Broadband service interruptions costing local firms money
BROADBAND customers in the Kirkinner and Whauphill areas have reached the end of their rope with provider BT after weeks of interrupted service.
Steve Acheson, who runs a financial advisory company from home, contacted The Gazette to say he was getting nowhere with the company after voicing fears for his business due to being out of contact for days on end.
Steve said: “It went off for four days ta the end of June then was on for about 12 days before going off again.
“I’ve called BT and they repeatedly tell me it will be fixed within 24 hours, but it never is. And they’re very difficult to get hold of, I finally found a number but it wasn’t easy.”
He added: “The government are trying to encourage rural businesses but how can anyone be encouraged to start up here with this level of service?”
Steve’s neighbour, who runs a campsite, has also had interruptions and doesn’t know how much business she may have lost.
BT told us they are aware of the issues and are working on them.
A spokeswoman said: “A number of customers served by Kirkinner exchange have been having problems with their broadband service recently. We initially carried out a series of repairs following lightning damage, and subsequently completed extensive work at the exchange last Thursday. After this, tests indicated that the broadband service was working normally. However, on Friday, it became apparent that some people were still experiencing problems. Further, significant, overnight work is planned at the exchange this week to get to the bottom of the problem, and we would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience and frustration this fault is causing. The work is being carried out overnight to minimise any further impact.”
