Boost for Galloway businesses

A project has been launched to give small- to medium-sized businesses in the Galloway region a boost. The South of Scotland Business Competitiveness Project, part financed by the European Regional Development Fund, aims to improve business performance, sustainability and regional competitiveness in the South of Scotland. The project will focus on sectors key to the sustainability of the local economy such as tourism, food and drink, textiles and renewables.

There will be a range of support available to businesses, including help with action planning and business management.

When it comes to promotional activities, there is PR and Marketing advice and assistance with printed material such as flyers and brochures. E-commerce development will also feature and support can be given to improve any online presence.

Council staff will be able to give advice on funding from mainstream sources such as VisitScotland Growth Fund, Innovation funding and the South of Scotland Loan Fund.

To be eligible your business must be: based in Dumfries and Galloway, be a small- to medium-sized enterprise, with fewer than 250 employees, be trading and be able to demonstrate actual or predicted profitability and potential for additional employment, demonstrate aspirations to develop your business, to create and/or increase full-time employed positions and to provide a product and/or service which enhances the regional offering.

Roger Grant, chairman of PHE, said: “I am delighted that this project has been launched. It should provide a boost to the local economy. Businesses need a helping hand in the current financial climate, so the expert advice and assistance with e-commerce could prove invaluable.”
