Big day at Murrayfield for Emily

TOMORROW will be a day to remember for 11-year-old Emily Cleer as she will be one of the Scotland rugby team’s mascots for their Calcutta Cup clash against England at Murrayfield.

Sports-mad Emily goes to Port William Primary and her hobbies include running, netball and playing the violin, but she often goes to watch rugby with her uncle. Emily won the mascot place in a draw as she is a member of “the Scotland Pack” – the Scottish rugby junior supporters’ club.

Before the game starts all the mascots run onto the pitch and line up, then the players run out and assemble behind them. Although she doesn’t know which player she will be paired with, Emily hopes it will be her favourite Scotland star, Richie Gray.

Her mum, Alison, says she is really excited and can’t wait for tomorrowto arrive – and she has her autograph book ready. Her prize includes a full strip and tickets for her parents and brother, as well as the chance to meet all the players after the game.
