An ADS spokespersons aid: “ADS Revival Service is a mentoring service that offers a wide range of support for people who feel isolated from daily life as a result of an alcohol and/or drug problem throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
“We urgently need volunteers in Stranraer, Newton Stewart and The Machars. Our volunteer mentors receive an initial training programme and continue to receive support, opportunity and encouragement to access further training, if they wish. A good proportion of our volunteers have gone on to paid employment with us or with other social care organisations.
“Our volunteers tell us it is a very rewarding experience both in terms of feeling they are able to directly benefit individuals, and help people move positively back into their community and society. They also benefit by increasing their own confidence and often discover skills they didn’t know they had.”
