Addict had £5000 of heroin
A drug addict from Stranraer was jailed for 15 months this week after being caught with over £5000 of heroin in his possession in the town.
Richard Carlisle, 27, of Hanover Street, appeared for sentencing after admitting being involved in the supply of the class A drug in November last year after police were tipped off about him carrying drugs on the Glasgow to Stranraer train.
His solicitor, Brian Gallen, said that over time Carlisle had become addicted to the drug and got into debt with his suppliers. He was told he could work off the debt by acting as a courier.
Sheriff Ian Fleming told the accused the significant amount of the drug he was carrying meant that only a prison sentence was appropriate.
