Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Education committee is being recommended to agree measures to implement the requirements of the Children and Young People Scotland Act (2014).
A report will update the committee on progress made towards implementing 600 hours of early learning and childcare for eligible children from August 2014, as set out in the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 and legislation currently before the Scottish Parliament.
Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the Education committee, said, “There is widespread evidence of the positive outcomes of funding high quality early learning and childcare and that, while all social groups benefit, children from the poorest families gain the most. There are also strong links between the availability of affordable and accessible childcare and improving employment opportunities for parents, particularly women. Our Council is focussed on the economy and jobs and protecting the most vulnerable people so delivering this is vital.”
