Local businesses nominated for regional heats of Scottish Tourism Oscars

A handful of businesses in the west have been nominated in the Scottish Thistle Awards, organised by VisitScotland.

The regional ceremony of the awards will be held on 5 June in New Lanark Mill, New Lanark, giving local businesses an opportunity to secure a place in the national awards this November.

The nominated local businesses are Auchenlarie Holiday Park, Solway View Holidays, Galloway Activity Centre, Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre and Newton Stewart Walking Festival.

Paula McDonald, Regional Director for VisitScotland, said: “Dumfries and Galloway is loved by those who visit. We offer an amazing range of things to see and do and the highest quality of places to stay. Our businesses have an excellent chance of securing a place at the national awards in November.”

The Scottish Thistle Awards celebrate excellence across the industry with special emphasis on quality and enhancing the overall visitor experience. VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance scheme seeks to capitalise on this further and aims to position Scotland as one of the world’s best visitor destinations.

Paula added: “Next year Scotland welcomes the world with several key events such as the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and Homecoming Scotland 2014 putting this country in the international spotlight and everyone needs to help do their bit to make the region shine. The local tourism industry as a whole needs to be as polished as it can be and this drive for quality is even more important when we are in the international spotlight. Now is the time for businesses to do all they can to stay at the very top of their game and reap the rewards.”
