Volunteer crew members from the RNLI Portpatrick lifeboat station received a cheque for £300 from the Stena Line Golf Society on Sunday.

Andrew McMillan, on behalf of the Stena Line Golf Society, presented the cheque to Portpatrick coxswain Quentin McKie and crew members prior to their weekly training exercise.

Andrew, who is one of the organisers of the golf society, explained that they hold an annual charity fundraising event on the last Friday of September, and that their chosen charity for 2013 was the RNLI. The event this year raised £600 which will be split between the crew funds of Portpatrick and Stranraer RNLI lifeboat stations.

Quentin said he was delighted with the generous donation, as it demonstrated that people in the local community appreciated the dedication of the RNLI lifeboat crews, most of whom are unpaid volunteers.
