LETTER: Opposed to a single police force

I am totally stunned by the assertion from Russell Brown, Dumfries and Galloway MP, that, in the wake of the move to a single police force in Scotland, “local policing in our area is under threat and Labour is determined to fight to protect local jobs and services”.

As it happens, I agree about the threat, which is why I did not support the Scottish government’s legislation to bring about a single police force. The Labour Party backed the legislation to the hilt, which gives Mr Brown’s tears a distinctly crocodile appearance.

I always opposed the move to a single force. Mr Brown and his party did not: they supported it, so must carry a share of the responsibility for the consequences.

Alex Fergusson, MSP,

The Scottish Parliament.
