LETTER: Comment was made in jest

The continuing success of the Galloway Music Festival pays tribute to all the hard work and efforts of everyone involved, not least the adjudicators who carry out a far from easy task.

In the case of the gentleman referred to in the letter of March 23, he had travelled, despite a busy schedule, from Manchester to stand in for a sick colleague. He had the ability, with his obvious passion for music, not only to inform, instruct and encourage the competitors but to do so in a light-hearted and humorous manner. Surely, therefore, it would have been preferable to approach him at the end of the performance to point out to him he had inadvertently made a remark which caused offence, rather than amusement as intended.
