THE Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire, Terry Brewis, handed over the keys of the new rescue platform to firefighters at Stranraer this week.

A spokesman said: “Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service regard the combined aerial rescue platform as an invaluable asset to the communities in the west of the region, which will provide a reassurance that a high-reach capability is only minutes away.

“We would especially like to thank Stena, P&O Ferries and Leslie MWH for their sponsorship and Belmont, Park and Sheuchan Schools for their participation in the poster competition.”

The appliance is to be based at Stranraer and will be deployed to a variety of incidents within the west of the service. Although it is utilised mostly as a supporting tender, its high reach capability provides flexibility to incident commanders to ensure “at height” incidents are managed as safely as practicable.
