Lady Shear challenge raises £14,000 for charity

The 10 ladies who “hogged” the limelight at Newton Stewart market last Friday by shearing 700 sheep in eight hours for charity reckon they received around £14,000 in donations for both Newton Stewart Hospital and the Royal Highland Educational Trust.

Lady Shear, organised by Carol McKenna from the Gass Farm at Kirkcowan, saw farm girls Lynn and Kirsty Wilson from High Barness, Wigtown; Shannon Telfer Nicholson from Rhonehouse; Kyla Graham from Irelandton, Twynholm; Kate McDonald, Whitedyke, Mochrum; Helen Ryman, North Kildarroch, Whauphill; Sheena Horner, Knockskeog, Wigtown; Libby Templeton, Oldland, Kirkcowan; and Hilary Howatson, Risk Farm, Newton Stewart, undertake the back-breaking shearing challenge and, at the same time, bring Newton Stewart to the attention of the world.
