The 7stanes Mountain Biking Community Interest Company (CIC) is working in partnership with Ae Bike Shop and Cafe to encourage ladies to take up mountain biking.

A ladies ride-out will be an informal get together for women regardless of experience.

There will be tuition/help/guidance available in the earlier sessions from a female guide.

The session, beginning on April 3 at 6.30pm, at Ae Bike Shop and Cafe, will include an introduction, where any questions will be answered and a chance to get to know your bike. From there, the group will cycle a short distance along a green route (forest roads and trail relatively flat and wide).

This will raise awareness to Forestry Commission Scotland’s mountain bike trails having colour-coded levels, taking away the stigma that all trails are for extreme or very experienced mountain bikers.

The session will finish with a get-together back at the cafe for coffee and cake and a blether. As the group progresses it will change to suit different abilities on different trails, but all will finish up together at the cafe.

There will be no charge for riding the trails, only a modest car parking charge and for the coffee and cake. If mountain bikes are required, contact Diane at Ae Bike Shop and Cafe on 01387 860805 for hire details.

Mandy Layden, development manager for the 7stanes CIC, said: “I am really excited about this venture. I recently attended the Total Women’s Cycling Awards in London, as an award finalist and was very much inspired listening to all the success stories in women’s cycling.

“I felt it was my job to continue that success up in Scotland, across the 7stanes. The ladies ride-out’will begin as a pilot scheme at Ae Forest and hopefully will roll this out across the other stanes. I am appealing to all ladies – not just mountain bikers – to join in. This venture is for ladies who have thought they would quite like to cycle but have not had the confidence to do so and for ladies who have, but would quite like to attend a ladies-only group.”
