ON Sunday August 26, The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright launched their annual Duck Race on the River Dee.

There were 1000 ducks in the first sprint and in the fancy dress corporate race there were 94 well-fed flyers. The corporate ducks had been over wintered with their owners and some looked decidedly plump. The river temperature did not deter the excitement as the crowd of hundreds cheered the flightless wonders.

The two main organisers, Peter and Christine Wimbush.

The current up-stream ensured a fine race. The winner of the 1000 duck sprint was famous decorated iron worker James (rancher) Robertson and second and third were the grandchildren of the old established farming family of James Dunlop.

The corporate spoils went to the Star Hotel. The two beneficiaries from the duck race this year will be the local Lock Arthur Community and an overseas mobile eye clinic.

Many thanks to all who owed corporate ducks or bought tickets for the main race. A special thanks to the help received from The Summer Festivities and Sea Cadets.
