FARMER Michael Yates, 22, from East Logan, Castle Douglas, will take the lead role at this year’s Kirkcudbright Riding of the Marches.

Michael, who is a keen rugby player and was a lynor in 2008, will have 24-year-old Abie Taylor of Ermenzie Farm, Castle Douglas, as his Lass.

Abbie is a PE teacher at St Joseph’s College in Dumfries and was a lynor in 2008.

The Pursuivant for the celebrations is Neil Sturrock from Dumfries, who has been a keen follower of the Riding of the Marches all his life.

He has ridden the Marches since he was a lynor in Dumfries in 2004 and works with Dumfries and Galloway Council as an IT technician.

The Kirkin’ of the Cornet and his Lass will take place at Kirkcudbright Parish Church on Sunday July 15 with the Riding of the Marches on Friday July 20 in the evening.
