The closure of Kirkcudbright Bridge to allow for resurfacing works is set to continue longer than the original date of Friday 14 November due to poor weather.
The bridge was closed on Monday, 3 November to allow for upgrade works including waterproofing and resurfacing the carriageway and was due to be reopened this week.
But a council spokesman said this week: “This work was scheduled for Easter this year but, following local representations, the work was rescheduled to avoid school holidays.
“The surface of the bridge must be dry before the waterproof membrane can be laid and it can’t be done while it is raining.
“Unfortunately, weather forecasts for later this week indicate rain.
“However, the waterproof membrane will be laid and the work completed as soon as the surface is suitably dry and the weather conditions allow.”
