NEWTON Stewart’s most celebrated actress, Kate Dickie, has been back in Newton Stewart this week … not in person but on screen at The Cinema in the blockbuster film Prometheus.

Kate, who shot to fame in the gritty award winning movie Red Road, was thrilled get the part as the doctor in the sci-fi epic, especially as it meant working with iconic film director Sir Ridley Scott.

Speaking to The Galloway Gazette yesterday, she said: “I auditioned for the part and, as Ridley Scott had already seen a film of mine and liked it, I got the part!

“Working with him was a great experience. Amazing really. He is so generous and kind and the rest of the cast were just amazing. Most of the film was shot at Pinewood Studios in London but we also shot some scenes in Iceland and at the Old Man of Storr.

“At the moment I am filming a wee part for a Channel 4 drama and going to auditions. Just the usual!

“But I am planning to come down to Newton Stewart in the summer to catch up with the family.”
