Kirkcudbright is gearing up for its 18th jazz festival which will also kick-start the beginning of the town’s summer entertainment programme.
Opening on Thursday 11th June. the festival continuing over the weekend and boasts an international selection of jazz musicians and singers, playing in venues throughout the town and throughout the day.
This enormously popular event marks the start of Kirkcudbright’s summer festivities season and sees a number of new bands arriving, and old favourites returning.
The festival has proved highly successful over the years. The emphasis is on the golden age of jazz in the 1920s to 30s, featuring melodic and foot tapping pieces from the “Great American Songbook”. The venues range from small, intimate settings in halls and rooms around the town to opportunities for dinner with a live jazz accompaniment in several well-known Kirkcudbright restaurants.
The brolly parade on Saturday morning should be a colourful event with the Kirkcudbright Allstars being joined by children from the local primary schools who will be decorating their own umbrellas. The Jazz church services are always hugely popular. Whatever your taste there is the perfect opportunity to enjoy great live music during the 4 days of the festival.
