A MEGA charity night is to be held to raise funds for four charities.

The event, organised by Galloway Thistle boys football club, will be on Saturday, April 14.

It’s the fourth year in a row the club has held a charity night and it will take the form of a 1970/1980s night with one of top band Boogie Express.

This year’s chosen charities are once again Macmillan cCancer Nurses, Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, Help For Heroes and Wigtownshire Women’s Aid.

Nearly £14,000 has been raised by previous events from raffles and an auction. This year, thanks to donations from well-known footballers, clubs, pop stars, local companies and some of Britain’s top companies, the club has again gathered outstanding items.

Top of the list for auction are four outstanding gifts. The first is an official shirt from possible treble-winning Celtic’s captain, Scott Brown, who handed the top to Thistle coach Jason Adair after he had signed it, along with a captain’s armband and photo. The second lot is a squad-signed shirt from Real Madrid, along with a personally signed pennant and photo from one of the world’s top players, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lot number three is a squad-signed away shirt from European champions Barcelona

Lot four is a fully-signed shirt from the official Scotland squad. Other items include tops from Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs, Sunderland, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, some signed footballs and loads of signed photos from stars such as Gareth Bale, Didier Drogba, Robin Van Persie, David Silva and Mario Balotelli.

For the girls, there are signed photos from One Direction, The Wanted and Rod Stewart.

Last year’s top item was a signed guitar from Paolo Nutini so this year there is a signed framed disc of Paolo Nutini’s smash hit Sunny Side Up.

Galloway Thistle are also trying to fix up the much anticipated gig from Paolo in this area but, due to important engagements, he cannot commit to a specific date and local fans will have to be patient.

Throughout the charity night there will be a silent auction and a mega-raffle with loads of top prizes, including hotel breaks for two, a family day out at M&D’s, meal vouchers for various venues, tickets to football games, stadium tours and more. All items in the auction will be split between the chosen charities. Any companies willing to donate prizes can do so by calling 07877 202151.

Tickets, priced £10, are on sale now but are almost sold out. Remaining tickets are available from Thistle coaches, newsagents and Cafe Cree.
