Government phone proposals won’t help Galloway’s ‘not-spots’, says MP

Dumfries and Galloway MP Russell Brown has criticised proposals from the UK Government aimed at tackling ‘partial not-spots’ in mobile phone coverage, because they will continue to leave large parts of Dumfries and Galloway with no mobile phone signal.

The plans would see mast sharing to allow constant coverage, but won’t help areas which currently have no coverage at all by any of the big four providers – plenty of which are in Galloway.

Mr Brown said: “The current mobile phone infrastructure simply highlights the rural-urban digital divide and it is down to the Government and the mobile phone companies to tackle this discrimination”.
