ON Sunday 11th March, 10 villagers turned up to take part in a litter pick and a tidy up of the school grounds at Glentrool.

Around 12 bags of rubbish were gathered, most of which came from the sides of the unclassified road, and appeal has now gone out by those who participated to motorists and lorry drivers with the message: “Don’t throw your rubbish in Glentrool – take it home with you and keep Glentrool tidy.”

Two discarded freezers, shown in the photo, are awaiting uplift by Dumfries and Galloway Council and have been adorning the school since January, which hasn’t helped the residents to keep the area looking clean and smart.

As usual, the occasion was turned into a social event with participants enjoying a cup of coffee and biscuits and a well deserved rest afterwards.
