Ghoulish goings on in Galloway

YOU wouldn’t even know there had been a pumpkin shortage across the UK this year as scores of schools, clubs and businesses joined in with October’s spookiest celebrations.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed hundreds of pumpkin crops in the States and a wet spring and summer here delayed planting - all leading to a noticeable shortage.

But Galloway didn’t seem to care as skeletons were pulled out of closets for school parties and turnips were used by those who couldn’t find the orange heads.
