Get crafty this Christmas

On Saturday, November 17, Dumfries’s Gracefield Craft Shop shows an exciting new collection of hand-made crafts with a special Christmas focus this year on textiles.

The featured artists are Kirkcudbright’s Morag McPherson, who will be presenting stunning scarves, cushions and kimonos; Edinburgh-designed “Earth Squared” fabulous hand-bags; and new work from Lochmaben weaver Dorothy Stewart.

You will also find ceramics, jewellery, basketry, wood, artists’ books, hand-made preserves and chocolates, soaps and perfumed goods, stocking fillers and unique gifts to suit all pockets. And thre will be a 10% discount on all stock on the opening day.

If you are not quite there with all your shopping, or are stuck for some new ideas, don’t forget the last-minute, late-night shopping opportunities on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 11 and 12, 5-8pm. Enjoy a glass of Christmas fizz, a mince pie and some stress-free shopping and a chance view the International Miniature Print Exhibition.

The regular craft shop opening hours are Tuesday-Friday 10.30am-3.30pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and you’ll find the Shop situated with Gracefield Gallery 2 building along with the exhibition space and Café Hubbub.

The eighth International Miniature Print Exhibition arrives at Gracefield soon and features more than 250 original prints from across the globe all no bigger than 10x8cm. It runs from Saturday, November 24, to Saturday, January 19 (not December 24-January 3).

Most prints are available to buy immediately. This exhibition is a must-see for lovers of printmaking, and also lovers of fantastic technique, amazing detail and true originality. Selected by the Printmakers Council, the exhibition has been touring to great acclaim.
