SHORTLY before Christmas, Garlieston Primary School celebrated one section of the building turning 100 years old and through this celebration, Garlieston saw its community unite and share an enjoyable trip down memory lane. The support from both Sorbie and Garlieston parents, community and shop proprietors was outstanding, which helped to make the Christmas Show, Christmas Card sales and open afternoon such a resounding success.
The grand total raised was a very impressive £715, with both schools bowled over by this amount. They can’t thank the community enough.
Mrs Vance said: “A very big thank you goes to everyone who braved the icy weather and attended Garlieston Primary School’s Open Afternoon, on the 16th of December. The open afternoon saw around 100 people walk through the school gates, where they enjoyed looking at old school photos, log books, the history of Garlieston and shared memories over a delightful cup of tea and cake.
“Thanks must also go to the fantastic catering team who would give the Costa Coffee squad a run for their money - fast, friendly and very efficient.”
Some visitors left their comments about the school. One said: “I am so impressed by how confident and welcoming the boys and girls are.” Another: “What fantastic things are going on in this school.” And finally: “It was so lovely to sit and listen to folk reminiscing about ‘the good old days’.”
