RAMBLING through the glens of Galloway has been a popular pastime in this area for more than a century as this picture confirms. Long before the Wigtownshire Ramblers pulled on their boots there was a Newton Stewart Ramblers Club. This photograph comes from a collection of old snaps loaned to The Galloway Gazette by Stephen McDowall.
Two weeks ago we had a picture of railway workers standing outside Kirkcowan Station. Carson Lupton from Creetown phoned The Gazette offices to say that the James Lupton in the picture was his brother. He named the other two as Robin Johnstone, the station master and Ian Young. Mr Lupton thought the picture was taken at Creetown Station, but Hugh Templeton, the owner of the photo, said it was definitely Kirkcowan because his father took it!
