OUR picture from the past this week was loaned to The Galloway Gazette by Ann Sherry from Minnigaff and shows Victoria Street, Newton Stewart in the early 1950s. The man standing closest to the camera is John Wilson, then the owner of The Central Bar and sitting on the window ledge of the pub is his son Jackie.
In last week’s Galloway Past picture the man second right was Jim Ferguson, not Nim Murray. In the Galloway Past picture printed on July 29, Nancy Hornell, Margaret Kay, Roy Campbell and Davy Brawls have also been identifed. Nancy Aird from Wigtown recognised her father Bob Miller in the picture from July 22, when he was getting his gold medal from Her Majesty the Queen for 50 years sevice at Baltersan Farm, Newton Stewart.
