THE Galloway and Upper Nithsdale election count went right to the wire last Friday morning as the SNP’s Alasdair Morgan was ousted from his seat by Conservative Alex Fergusson by just 99 votes. The new MSP said: “I am absolutely thrilled.”
HOMEowners near a soon-to-be-opened homeless hostel have signed a petition against the council which, they say, has been “vague” about the proposals. Thirty residents who neighbour Benyellary, a former Social Services building in York Road, Newton Stewart, sent the petition to the housing department earlier this week. The 30 are objecting on the grounds that the change of use of premises does not require planning consent and therefore there has been no consultation with the local community.
